Description:The mathematical sciences has been a lifelong passion of mine and it is my goal in this book to share some of the more fundamental, important and interesting parts of this subject with serious students that intend to pursue advanced study in the mathematical sciences. This book provides a solid introduction to set theory (in particular infinite sets), a good review of elementary calculus, an introduction to the measure concept of real number sets, a good introduction to the basics of probability theory, and some elementary statistics. It is my belief that many of the important ideas in the study of infinite sets and the measure of real number sets, which are usually taught at the graduate level, can be introduced to students before graduate school. This book will provide, before graduate school, a solid understanding of some of the mathematical foundations necessary for advanced study in mathematics and statistics. The calculus chapter is largely a review, because I am assuming that the reader has a mathematical knowledge generally achieved after having completed the first year of calculus. This is not a textbook, but it is a good informal treatment of mathematics, probability, and elementary statistics, that contains an abundance of examples to illustrate the concepts.
