My acquaintance in general ? among others not yet named, Walter Wright ? concurred in this view, and the effect was that I neglected being entered a member of an Inn of Court; nevertheless I was averse to being an attorney, for which I was as little qualified as to be a barrister. I determined, however, to read lav/ and occupy myself as well as I could, living meanwhile with the utmost economy. With youth, health, high spirits, and, alternating with a very low opinion of myself, a vanity which vao gratified by perceiving that I could readily make my way in society, I was able to lead a busy idle life.
