According to the most common view, he was born in 1208 or 1209 in Hortu village of Sivrihisar, and died at the end of XIII century in Aksehir. His tomb is in Aksehir, Konya. He received his primary education from his father Imam Abdullah Effendi. Later he attended madrasahs in Sivrihisar and Konya. After he completed his education he became an imam instead of his father in the village. Nasreddin Hodja also worked as an assistant judge and madrasah teacher. That's why he was called Nasreddin Hodja. Hodja also learnt Islamic myticism from alim Seyyid Muhammed Hayrani. Details about Hodja's life are shrouded with mystery and hearsay.
