The story is based on a second century document called the Acts of Thomas, supplemented by my own research in India, Pakistan, and the Middle East. It is a tale of love and tragedy. The characters are not inventions of mine but taken straight out of an 1800-year-old manuscript. Americans and Western audiences are not familiar with this story but, it is known in the east. Thomas is indentured to a trader and travels to India. During the journey he encounters a beautiful Jewish flutist at a wedding ceremony. Enchanted by her, he discovers he has a competitor for her affection and is consumed by jealousy. In the course of events, his competitor is killed by lion, an event that Thomas could have prevented. His failure to save this young man torments him as he continues his journey. It slowly drives him mad as he encounters and debates Buddhist priests, meets with great princes and princesses, and eventually finds both succor and danger. Brahmin priests initially welcome him to south India but soon find his teachings an abomination. Devout Brahmin priests kill him on a hill near modern day Chennai in a dramatic moment. The story is written more from the eastern perspective. People may be surprised when they realize how much documentation exists surrounding the possibility / probability that the Apostle Thomas was the brother and maybe even twin of Christ.
