Description:Excerpt from Service and Regulatory Announcements: Agricultural Research Administration, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, January-March 1947P. N. Annand, Chief of the Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, says that in many areas the Dutch elm disease is building up rapidly and in some sections the number of trees that have been killed are presenting serious problems of removal of dead shade trees. He continues that the revocation of the quaran tine does not mean the Bureau proposes to discontinue work on the disease. The enforcement of the quarantine has been a minor part of the program that.has been carried on during the last 3 years.The Bureau proposes to continue inspections to determine the areas where the disease occurs and to advise States of new finds. Such information is needed as a guide in carrying out any program that States or communities may adopt to safeguard localities. From infection. The Bureau proposes to cooperate with States and aid them in carrying out such objectives, It will also work-closely with States and local communities where suppressive programs are conducted. This will include detailed inspections to locate infected trees and logs and labora tory examinations needed to identify the disease. Technical advice and informa tion will be available to those interested and concerned with the disease.
