A young gentleman, just entering into the printing business, had asked me, once and again, to give him an occasion of showing the public his progress in the typographic art, and I have, at length, weakly, though not unwillingly, complied with his request. I gave him the following pieces, connected with past events, some by pleasant, but most of them by painful associations. Yet, thanks be to Him who has made us of such a nature, that past pleasures still live in memory, and that time seldom fails to soften the pains we have snfiered, into a pensive, but not unpleasing remembrance. Thus are we disposed to make the best of this passable life, and when the hour of parting arrives, to bid the world good night.I dedicate this little volume to my Wife, my Sisters, and my Children.
