Abstract: iii Abstract This paper reports on a study that investigated the managerial and leadership behavior of veteran primary school principal for three days in a school setting in Hong Kong. Three particular areas were investigated: (1) amount of time spent on administrative and instructional activities; (2) the manner the principal interacted with her followers; (3) the role of reflective practice on a newly-appointed principal's professional development. Findings indicated that the principal spent the majority of her time on scheduled meetings, managing the school by walking. The findings also revealed that the principal maintains an excellent relationship with her followers while keeping high expectation of their performance. She has been balancing well on time, feeling and focus. Lastly, the researcher, a new principal, has benefited a lot by adopting 'reflective practice' as means of on-site professional development.
