Description:Excerpt from Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences, 1876, Vol. 7: Part I The Report of your Treasurer, which will be given to you in detail, shows a balance in hand of -and this, after paying for the printing of our publication of 1874, and the heavy expenses of altering this hall and supplying cases for our books and specimens. On the whole, therefore, our condition substantially is a satisfac tory one; but I am able to speak in much higher terms of the scientific progress of the Academy, and the amount of work which has been accomplished. Our able director, Dr. Kellogg, has been absent for a part of the year, having been selected by the Government to make a collection of the woods of California for exhibition at the coming Centennial, which work he has most successfully performed. During his absence his place has been ably filled by Mr. W. G. W. Harford, who merits our warmest thanks for the interest he has always displayed in the Academy, and for the amount of industry he has brought to bear upon the duties of his position.
