Later the subject of examining ores and the adjusting of the stamp-mill to their requirements became of interest. The first edition of this book incorporated my experience and conclusions along the above lines, and the knowledge gathered from other millmen and metallurgists with whom I had associated. Since then I have been engaged in many widely separated parts of the metal-mining regions of the United States, and have had further opportunity to observe stamp-mill practice and to discuss the subject with millmen and metallurgists. During this time I have also prepared a work on standard cyanide practice. As a result the third edition of this book is an entire revision and enlargement that has been illustrated with 77 carefully selected cuts and drawings.
