The history of the technology, innovations, conflicts is very well told. Unfortunately the text is marred by the author's the authors eugenic orientation and boring reminders of the accomplishment of "Anglo-Saxon" Americans - always put at the top of the heap. But then 1926 was two years after the infamous Anti-Immigration Legislation of 1924 was passed by Congress urged on by a coalition of anti-immigration people (who would have loved Donald Trump) and eugenicists. So the framework, racist as it was, was common enough.
