Description:P.F. Collier & Son, New York, 1902. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition Thus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. This handsome Collier set of French Classical Romances in English translations was particularly popular when it was first published at the turn of the last century in 1902. Although scattered volumes can frequently be found, complete 20-volume sets are rare. The books are bound in a pastel green cloth with "The French Classical Romances" in black within a black banner on the front panel. On the spine are titles in black against a gilt border outlined in black. Above the title is a gilt crown, and below are four black fleur de lis. Each volume has a frontis illustration, a portrait of the author, with tissue guard, plus a facsimile author's signature beneath his or her portrait. Each volume has an Introduction to the novel, written by literary critics of the period. In the rear, following each novel, are period illustrations, portraits and caricatures of the author as well as essays on each presentation. The volumes are as follows (and volume numbers are listed on the bottom of the first Introduction page of each book): 1. The Chartreuse (Charterhouse) of Parma by De Stendhal; 2.
